Peoples' Commons DIY Communit Gathering takes place at Commons Park and Denver Skatepark. Every participant shares the same public space with other members of the community. The goal is to create a welcoming environment while respecting the rights of everyone who uses the park.
Choose an area that is not already being used. Settle into the space you need without blocking sidewalks, trails, entrances, overlooks, skate features, or other public access points.
Remember that the park belongs to everyone. Use only the amount of space reasonably needed for your activities and leave room for others to enjoy the park as well.
Arrange your chairs, blankets, tables, coolers, and personal belongings so they remain in a compact area. Avoid spreading into walkways or occupying more space than necessary.
A well-organized space makes it easier for people to visit, participate, and move freely throughout the park.
Pack only what you would normally bring for an enjoyable day outdoors. You might bring:
Bring only what you can comfortably carry in and remove without altering the park or affecting other visitors.
Commons Park and Denver Skatepark have no schedule and no required activities during park hours.
Spend the day however you enjoy participating in the DIY community. Demonstrate a skill, work on a project, share ideas, teach something you've learned, collaborate with others, exchange materials, enjoy live music, or simply meet new people.
Participation is what creates the commons.
Be aware of the people around you.
Avoid blocking trails, sidewalks, bridges, stairs, benches, bike paths, playgrounds, skate features, or access to park facilities. Leave room for pedestrians, cyclists, skaters, families, and emergency access.
When you leave, take everything with you.
Dispose of trash properly, recycle when possible, and leave your space as clean, or cleaner, than you found it.
Denver Commons exists alongside everyone else enjoying the park.
Be welcoming, respectful, and considerate. Keep noise at a reasonable level, respect personal space, and remember that not everyone in the park is participating in Denver Commons.
As a participant, you are sharing a public park with everyone else. Occupying a space for the day does not reserve, claim, or control any part of the park.
Others remain free to walk by, enjoy the park, observe what you're doing, ask questions, or continue on their way.
Peoples' Commons exists because people choose to participate while respecting the equal rights of every other person using the park. The commons belongs to everyone and no one can be turned away. Aside from park rangers and law enforcement, no one has the right to tell anyone what to do.
The gathering emerges because many people choose to participate at the same place, on the same day, with the same shared purpose.
