Your Right to Public Parks & Recreation

A gathering of people who make, share, and learn together.

Peoples' Commons Gatherings take place in a public park that is open for everyone to enjoy. Like any other park visitor, participants have the right to peacefully gather with family, friends, neighbors, and fellow community members for recreation, conversation, creative activities, and the enjoyment of public space, subject to applicable laws and park regulations.

Participants are expected to respect the park, other visitors, and the surrounding community by following common public park rules, including:

• Leave the area clean and dispose of trash properly.
• Respect other park users and avoid interfering with their enjoyment of the park.
• Keep noise at a reasonable level.
• Keep dogs on a leash except in designated off-leash areas.
• Do not damage trees, plants, wildlife, park facilities, or public property.
• Follow posted park hours, closures, and safety notices.
• Obey all applicable City and County of Denver ordinances and Denver Parks and Recreation rules.

Peoples' Commons DIY Community Gathering is not a permitted event, a commercial festival, or an exclusive use of the park. Participants are simply members of the public choosing to gather in a shared public space while respecting the rights of everyone else who is using the park.

If your planned activity extends beyond ordinary recreational use of a public park, such as closing off areas, installing large structures, selling goods, serving alcohol, or conducting activities that require a permit, you are responsible for obtaining any permits or approvals required by the City and County of Denver before your activity takes place. Should you obtain a permit, it should only cover your immediate area and not the entire park.

Conducting commerce or commercial activities within a public park or recreation area without the required permit is prohibited by law. As a best practice, leave your money behind. You're welcome to bring items to share, barter, or trade, but buying and selling are discouraged unless all applicable permits have been obtained.
